When a French business in the health care sector had a shipment to be moved, that was both critical in multiple ways, they naturally chose the vendor from a global list of the best in business. Bang in the middle of the COVID condition, we did the pickup in mid-May 2020? and had to fight several odds to make a delivery that met and surpassed the customers expectation. The job flew from Surat, via Bombay, to Frankfurt.

The odds that we had to fight were:

The pickup was on a Saturday in Surat.
Sunday was a customs holiday.
LH could not give us space and the shipment had to be routed on EK.
Customs clearance and export was arranged seamlessly on Monday and the shipment arrived safely and in-time.

When an international business ships to India, the above and other items of low value, AJW Express, the parent company of Global Courier and Parcel Services, begins a series of actions that it has learned to do in its 27 years of dominance as a specialist service provider. Customers clearance at lightning speeds, an arrival confirmation report by house airway bill, piece and kilo, stacking by priority of age, transit time chosen, a quick breakdown and turnaround, will ensure that the shipment is delivered smartly and well on-time.

AJW Express has achieved this dominance by taking head-on and overcoming and number of challenges that came its way since 1994. Slipping in and out of various formidable situations, many of which could have broken us but for our relentless pursuit. Governmental agencies like the customs have to be convinced in matters such as evaluation and delays in release, the reluctance of the post office required convincing. Over time, the service tax department enforced a huge burden that was resolved once, and yet again deliberately imposed which we continued to fight. The GST, RBI and FIMA compliances are some of the tough ones we managed successfully. There have been many other lesser evils but not necessarily easier to resolve.

History of Challenges –

Within day of business commencement, we found the custom laws had changed and we required a special operating license called landing permission. The arduous and complicated task of proving your identity, providing bonds to the president of India, deposits of substantial sums and supplying a long list of documents to establish your financial history, your financial liquidity, the various addresses of your home and other business locations and every fact about you for the Government of India to access and locate you. All this was possible due to the support of a friend from the industry, who is now no more, may his soul rest in peace.

Having mastered the issues of imports, the next huge problem was distribution. Our mantra from the inception has only been one – “Nothing but the best will do”. From 1995 Blue Dart Express and the post office have been serving us without a break. This relationship has never been taken lightly by any of the parties. We enjoy a fantastic rapport but nothing comes before performance and delivery.

As we grew, so did the competition. Many a multinational began operations in India to nibble away at our jobs. A Rare opportunity!

As the weekend approached, we received an urgent automotive parts shipment weighing about 200 kg in four Cartons. Having no way of shipping this out of our Chennai office when Customs were closed, we decided that this shipment will have to wait till the following week.

However, these parts turned out to be a very urgent requirement in Germany for a very large manufacturer who was in a tool down situation. We found this out at midnight on Saturday evening when they were any number of calls being exchanged with our operations team. Finally, after the head of the German business unit in charge of Express business for our partner in Germany called and spoke to our Managing Director personally and told him that there was a desperate need for these cartons to reach Berlin, we decided we will do whatever we could do to ship out and leave no stone unturned.

The shipment was flown to Mumbai (BOM) at 6 AM and taken into customs by 1 PM for customs clearance on Sunday! Very Special arrangements were made for this as we had to convince Customs that this was an Emergency and the Customer was facing a Crisis situation. Customs Clearance was arranged and the Express Freight space located by 6 pm and the shipment was on Board an LH flight to Frankfurt at Midnight! At FRA our Partner had it Custom Cleared and delivered within hours!!

This was a rare job as our Partner is a Global Express business with many divisions in Air Freight Services, but it took us to be take the challenge of getting the Job done for them. The real reason why this was a job that we could handle was only because we specialize in any job that is tough and are happy to take on any challenging jobs. In addition, we work on handling any hurdle regardless of time of day or its complexity.
